Tidbit: A Paradigm Shift Is Coming
In the future I predict a major paradigm shift in business and consumer-led information system services driving us away from traditional desktop models viewed from fixed, internal environments and into open, external, social environments. The development of agile, personalised, pervasive, user-centred and ubiquitous mobile technologies will bring our networks and workplaces to us, rather than us to them. Social media tools such as Facebook and Twitter will be demoted to “background” services as opposed to the prominent foreground services they are today. Although “always-on” connectivity will give us unlimited access to such tools for backup and lifestreaming, our primary focus will be on developing offline, “real world” connections void of the declining barriers to entry created by world-wide communication channels. In this new world true objective and subjective values will be derived from personal and social interactivity with others, coupled with the secondary information system services provided by ubiquitous technologies.
