Mark My Words

The Day I Went Exploring

Although I endeavoured to get this out last week, when it was fresh in my head, I have now had a little more time to sit down and get this post out. I was initially thinking about starting this story from the beginning, but instead thought that starting from the end would be more appropriate. That way, you don’t have to listen to the whole story before getting to the good stuff.

So, the good stuff. I present to you, my new Flickr Photostream.

At the minute, my photostream consists of pictures from around where I live including lots of countryside, animals, and signage. The countryside was just to show off what a beautiful place I live in, but the animals and signage are a bit more subtle than they first appear. The idea behind the animals is that I want to present what animals are like over here in the UK, as I have absolutely no idea what amazing animals exist across the world. Apart from searching Google Images, but there’s no fun in that, is there? The reasoning behind the signage is that I love the study of symbolism and semiotics. I wondered how many of the images translated across borders, how many would be understood, what would people’s perception of them be. If you were over in the UK, would you understand them? If not, why not? What emotions do they evoke? You get the picture. Also, if you have any pictures of signage from around the world, would I understand them? Would be great to find out some of your thoughts on this, and whether you’d be willing to do some animal and signage photography around your neck of the woods?

PS: The adventure also got me out of the house, which, for a geek like me, proves that I do go outside, every once and a while.

PPS: I also got to try out Nokia Sports Tracker Beta which on reflection maybe cancels out the good I did trying not to be a geek?

PPPS: My adventure does correlate quite well to The Nerd Handbook by Rands In Repose. The key to my existence that one.
