I’ve been thinking about a Twitter “Serendipity Search” after @mikey3982 and I had a quick exchange about it over a Direct Message or two. Although there are a number of ways of discovering conversations I thought I’d offer another using Google Alerts or Google search using advanced operators. Using Google Alerts as illustrated you can get a feed of the “best” tweets around a topic or topics that you can either email to yourself of subscribe to in a feed reader. (You could also create a “bot” Twitter account that tweeted you the results using Twitterfeed.) Here’re the results for “sociology”.
Google Chrome Dictionary Extension. Great little extension for looking up words inline.

I stumbled across a great Mac application yesterday called Chromatic. The application makes it really easy to update and install Chromium (also known as Google Chrome). As Chromium is being continually updated this application can be used to keep it up-to-date at the touch of a button. It’s geeky but I now use it instead of Google Chrome as the only difference is the logo! This way, I get access to updates when they happen and not just when Google tells me.
The Pomodoro Technique™ is a simple time management tool traditionally using a kitchen timer set to 25 minutes for uninterrupted working and then again to 5 minutes of rest. Now it’s available for Google Chrome! Go to Window > Extensions to set Options for longer or shorter times. Ideal for those striving for that work/rest balance.
If you’re a fan of YouTube Shows and own a Mac you’ll know that its built-in screen dimming and sleeping functions can have you reaching for your touchpad every 10 seconds. That’s where Caffeine comes in. With a single click of the cute little coffee cup icon in your menu bar Caffeine disables screen dimming and screen savers so you can watch shows in all of their fully-lit glory.
If you own a Mac and want to keep all of your applications freshly updated I’d recommend AppFresh. The application also helps you create an i use this profile such as mine which lists all of the applications you have installed on your Mac and helps you find new ones.
